Oliver Butts of The English Soap Company
My name is Oliver Butts and I am the Managing Director of The English soap Company. My family spent many years in perfecting the art of soap making and perfumery to make the perfect soaps and candles. A Soap that is smooth and silky in texture, moisturises rather than dries the skin, and above all is effused with a luxurious designer perfume that lasts until the end of the bar. Our Soaps are made from pure vegetable oils to which we add generous amounts of vegetable derived glycerine and shea butter from the African Karite tree, this ensures that the bar moisturises and nourishes the skin. To ensure that the texture of the bar is smooth and silky we use a triple blending and refining process to ensure the mix is perfectly smooth before it goes to be pressed. Our Soy Candles are made with Soya beans, meaning they are made from renewable sources. Soy candles are also very eco-friendly, thanks to the wax that’s used being naturally biodegradable. All of our candles strongly fragranced with a beautifully balanced scent that evaporates into your rooms atmosphere; this is sure to improve the presence and mood in any space. All our perfumes are made in England by expert perfumers and have been designed specifically for the English Soap Company. All our soaps are generously fragranced with long lasting quality perfumes.
The English Soap Company offers a range of beautiful soaps laden with coconut oil and shea butter, which makes them a lot more moisturizing than your average bar. The English Soap Company triple blend and refine their formulation, before infusing their soaps with their exclusive perfumes.
The English Soap Company uses soy wax for their candles, which is not only better for the environment, but burns so much more evenly too. The soy wax gives a much more clean burn, meaning that the scents can really take centre stage here. You get up to 35 hours of burn time which give our customers excellent value for money.
We also take the time to ensure our packing is just as good as the actual products, guaranteeing you have the best first impression of The English Soap Company possible. I have been selling and promoting The English Soap Company for over three years.
What inspired you into your line of business?
My family started manufacturing soaps and candles over 14 years ago and The English Soap Company branding aims to replicate the magic of the luxurious soaps they remembered from their childhood.
How do you find the Things British retail concept? How has it helped your brand?
It has given my brand great exposure into the consumer market in London from its great locations and both quantity and quality of passing trade.
For me Made in Britain not only means that a product is made within the shores of our country, but that a product also aspires to the values that one would associate with British Made, therefore for me British made is strongly associated with high quality and honest prices.
What advise would you give to anyone who is keen to step into retail?
You must love your product and at the same time listen to others for advice and suggestions whilst working hard and making it work.
What are the next big plans for your brand?
We are planning to develop the range in 2017 by introducing a range to include Liquid Soaps and Hand creams
